Introduction

The creative industry is a sector that plays a significant role in the economic growth of a city. In the city of Medan, the creative industry has the potential to become a major contributor to the local economy. However, the success of the creative industry depends on the innovative behavior of entrepreneurs in this sector. This study aims to analyze how proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset affect innovative behavior in entrepreneurs in the creative industry sector in the city of Medan.

Theoretical Background

Proactive personality is a characteristic that shows that individuals tend to take initiative and be responsible for their actions. In the context of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurs who have a proactive personality are usually more courageous to face risks and look for new opportunities. This is important in the creative industry, where innovation and adaptation is the key to surviving in strict competition. Proactive personality is adopted from the indicator of Bateman and Crant (1993), which includes dimensions such as taking initiative, self-starting, and taking responsibility.

Entrepreneurial mindset is a mindset that encourages individuals to see challenges as opportunities. Entrepreneurs with this mindset are more likely to innovate and create products or services that can meet changing market needs. Entrepreneurial mindset is based on the dimensions of McGrath & Macmillan (2000), which includes dimensions such as opportunity recognition, risk-taking, and innovation.

Methodology

This study involves 100 entrepreneurs operating in the creative industry in the city of Medan. The data was collected through a survey using a Likert scale. The scale used includes a proactive personality adopted from the indicator of Bateman and Crant (1993), entrepreneurial mindset based on the dimensions of McGrath & Macmillan (2000), as well as innovative behavior that uses the dimensions of Janssen (2000) modified.

Multiple regression analysis is applied in this study to test the effect of proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset on innovative behavior. The results show that there is a significant influence between proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset on innovative behavior, both partially and simultaneously (Sig. = 0,000, p <0.05). Both contributed 27.5% in encouraging innovative behavior among creative industry entrepreneurs in the city of Medan.

Results and Discussion

The results of this study show that there is a significant influence between proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset on innovative behavior. This implies that to encourage innovation among creative industry entrepreneurs, there needs to be development not only in aspects of personality but also mindset. Training and capacity building that emphasizes the formation of proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset can be an effective strategy.

Entrepreneurial mindset is a mindset that encourages individuals to see challenges as opportunities. Entrepreneurs in the city of Medan who want to improve their innovative behavior should not only focus on creative ideas, but also need to hone their personality and mindset of entrepreneurship. This will not only help them in creating better innovations, but also preparing them to face challenges in the future, as well as increasing the competitiveness of the creative industries in the area.

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size is limited to 100 entrepreneurs operating in the creative industry in the city of Medan. Secondly, the study only focuses on the influence of proactive personality and entrepreneurial mindset on innovative behavior. Future studies can explore other factors that influence innovative behavior among creative industry entrepreneurs.
