This study is a cross-sectional study that involves 100 schizophrenic patients who seek treatment at the BLUD outpatient installation at RSJ Prof. M. Ildrem in North Sumatra Province. To measure the level of stigma, the Stigma items from the Schedule for Clinical Assessment in Neuro Psychiatry (SCAN) are used. Meanwhile, to assess the emotional expression of the patient's family, the Family Questionnaire (FQ) is used. To analyze the relationship between stigma and emotional expressions and components that play a role in it, the Chi Square test is carried out. The significance criteria are determined by the value of P <0.05.

Research Results

The results showed a significant relationship between stigma and emotional expression with a value of P = 0,0001. The strength of the relationship found (odd ratio) is 40.773 with 95% confidence interval between 12,022 and 138,286. Research also found that there was no significant difference in critical comments based on demographic characteristics between mild and severe stigma. However, there are significant differences in emotional involvement (emotional over involvement) based on work on mild stigma with p = 0.042. On the other hand, no significant differences were found in emotional involvement based on age, gender, marital status, and education in mild stigma. In severe stigma, there is no significant difference in emotional involvement based on demographic characteristics.
