Introduction

Clean water is one of the basic needs for the community, and in the city of Medan and its surroundings, PDAM Tirtanadi served as the main provider. The Water Company owned by the North Sumatra Provincial Government is known to be efficient in its operations, both in terms of technical and functional. However, as the number of consumers increases, the capacity of the distribution network that does not increase causes serious problems: clean water supply becomes insufficient to meet the needs of the population. The demand for clean water is increasing, and the existing infrastructure is struggling to keep up.

This study aims to evaluate the performance of the water distribution network in the Fishermen Village Housing, the Fisherman Village, which is managed by the PDAM Tirtanadi Belawan Branch. The main focus of this study is to analyze how well the network can meet the customer's minimum needs in terms of discharge, pipe diameter, and other factors. The goal is to identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for enhancing the water distribution system.

Research Methodology

In this study, the first step is to calculate the number of each type of customer and respective water needs. After that, calculations are carried out to determine the water loss and determine the diameter of the pipe used. This aims to get accurate conclusions about the performance of the water distribution network. The research methodology involves a combination of data collection and analysis techniques.

The calculation results show that the total water needs for the Belawan Fishermen Village community reached 263.2 liters per minute. The water requirement reaches its peak between 17:00 to 20:00 WIB with a total use of 42,046 liters per day, equivalent to 0.0038931 m³/second based on measurement for 24 hours. The pipes used for distribution are PVC pipes with a diameter of 4 inch, 3.5 inches and 3 inches in diameter. The results indicate that the water demand is high, and the existing pipe infrastructure may not be sufficient to meet the needs of the community.

Water Quality

In addition to the discharge and diameter of pipes, water quality is also a focus in this research. Laboratory test results show that the quality of water in the fishing village has met the standard for consumption. The turbidity content was recorded at 0.296 NTU, iron content (Fe) 0.07 mg/L, Manganese level (MN) 0.031 mg/L, and a pH value of 7.6. All of these parameters indicate that the water distributed is safe for use by the community. The water quality meets the standard, but there may be other factors affecting the water quality.
