The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, where samples are taken based on certain criteria. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank correlation test.

The results of the analysis showed that there was no relationship between respondents' characteristics based on age (p = 0.710), but there was a relationship based on sex (p = 0.027). In addition, there is no relationship based on length of work (p = 0.614) and marital status (p = 0.774), while there is a relationship based on work status (p = 0.024) and income (p = 0.035) to the motivation of nurses to open independent nursing practices.

Discussion

The results of this study highlight the importance of nursing educational institutions and professional organizations to continue to provide quality information and training for nurses. A mentoring program is needed that can help nurses in planning and building independent nursing practices, so that they can better meet the needs of public health services, while improving their quality of life.

The Role of Nurse Characteristics in Motivation

From the results of the study, it appears that the characteristics of nurses have an important role in motivating them to open independent nursing practices. Gender as one of the related factors can indicate differences in ways of thinking or views between male and female nurses in utilizing their skills outside the hospital environment. Therefore, the nurse organization is expected to provide support and assistance to nurses who want to open independent nursing practices.

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a specific region, Padang Lawas Regency, and the findings may not be generalizable to other regions.
