The research was conducted on a greenhouse scale using a complete non-factorial random design. There are three treatment of water administration, namely:

100% Field Capacity (KL): This treatment involves providing 100% of the field capacity of water to the plants.
70% KL: This treatment involves providing 70% of the field capacity of water to the plants.
40% KL: This treatment involves providing 40% of the field capacity of water to the plants.

Each treatment is then returned to 100% KL in the initial critical growth period. Observed parameters include organic matter, P-available, N-total, pH, porosity, evapotranspiration, number of seeds per plant, seed weight per grain, seed weight per plant, wet weight, and dry weight of plants.

Research Result

The results showed that the sandy clay clay-textured land containing organic material of 0.85%, P-Avorsed 3.30 ppm, N-total 0.02%, pH 6.10, porosity of 58.21%, and evapotranspiration ranged between 3-3.8 mm/day. Treatment by giving 70% KL water which is then returned to 100% KL during the initial critical growth period shows the best results in the number of seeds and seed weight.

The number of seeds per plant ranges from 30.59 to 41.03 seeds.
Seed weight per grain is 0.12 grams.
Seed weight per plant reaches between 3.67 to 4.92 grams.

Meanwhile, the provision of 100% water does not show a significant difference in the wet weight of plants compared to the treatment of 70% KL and 40% KL which is returned to 100% KL. The wet weight of soybean plants is in the range of 6.36 to 7.79 grams, while the dry weight is between 2.36 to 2.65 grams.

From the results of the study, it is clear that the regulation of appropriate water can increase the growth of soybean plants in ultisol soils. The giving of 70% KL water was optimal in the initial phase of growth, because it triggered the adaptation and efficiency of water use by plants. The existence of low organic matter in ultisol soil implies the need for sustainable management practices, such as the addition of organic fertilizer and soil conservation techniques, to increase soil fertility in the long run.
