Introduction

This acid rain can cause damage to concrete buildings, so this research is important to do. Through this study, concrete resistance will be analyzed on acid water immersion with an emphasis on the compressive strength of concrete both normal and modified by the addition of corn leaf ash.

Research Methodology

The research method used in this study is an experimental study in the laboratory. The aim is to find out how much influence the immersion of acid solution (HCl) on concrete compressive strength that uses corn leaf ash as a mixture. The percentage of corn leaf ash used is 10% and 15% of the weight of cement, where both are expected to achieve the optimum compressive strength at 28 days. In addition, this research also utilizes a superplasticizer to improve the performance of corn ash concrete. Variation of the percentage of HCl solution added is 3.5% and 10.5%. Normal concrete will be used as a control in this research process. Testing compressive strength is done by utilizing a cylinder test object with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 30 cm at the age of 1, 2, 3, and 4 months.

Results and Discussion

From the results of the study, it was found that the optimum compressive strength in the concrete of corn leaf ash (ADJ) with a percentage of 10% soaked in a solution of 3.5% HCl at the age of 1, 2, 3, and 4 consecutive months reaching a value of 33.3 MPa, 36.0 MPa, and 34.9 MPa. In the 10.5% HCl immersion, the compressive strength value obtained is 24.5 MPa, 22.3 MPa, 21.5 MPa, and 19.7 MPa. These results indicate that the 10% ADJ concrete has a better ability to increase compressive strength compared to normal concrete and show greater resistance to HCl immersion.

From the explanation above, it can be concluded that the use of corn leaf ash as an additional material in making concrete not only increases the performance of compressive strength, but also offers solutions to manage organic waste. This study proves that the development of building materials that are more environmentally friendly is possible and needs to be done, especially in the context of climate change and environmental sustainability. The implementation of the use of corn leaf ash as a concrete material can be a significant breakthrough in the construction industry, allowing us to better appreciate and utilize existing resources on a sustainable manner.
