The Effect of Mixture Material Composition on Resistivity and Dielectric Strength of Epoxy Resin Insulator Mixture of Silicone Rubber and Coconut Coir Ash
Introduction
The use of polymer isolators in the electric power system has experienced significant development in recent years. In an effort to increase the electric and mechanical strength of the insulator material, researchers have been exploring the potential for the addition of mixed materials derived from natural fibers. One such material is coconut coir ash, which is rich in silicon oxide and has been shown to have several benefits, including increasing mechanical strength. However, the optimal composition of the mixture of materials is still not well understood. This study aims to investigate the effect of variations in the composition of the mixture of material on the resistivity value and dielectric strength of the insulator material produced.
Background

Methodology
In this study, five samples of polymer insulators were made using a mixture of epoxy resins as the main ingredient, with a composition of 60%, and a mixture of silicone rubber and coconut coir ash in various proportions. The mixture used in this study is divided into two main components: silicone rubber with variations of 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%, and 5%, and coconut fiber ash with a level of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35%. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of the mixture of material on the resistivity value and dielectric strength of the insulator material produced.
Results
The results of the study showed that the test sample 3 had the highest surface resistivity of 38.04 mΩm at a 1 kV work voltage, while the test sample 5 recorded the lowest volume resistivity value of 0.079 mΩm at the work voltage of 5 kV. This data shows that the composition of mixed materials has a significant impact on resistivity, where an increase in silicone rubber levels and reduction of coconut fiber ash in composition can produce higher resistivity.
In addition, the highest dielectric strength value is recorded in the test sample 3, which indicates that an increase in the proportion of coconut coir ash in the mixture has a negative effect on the dielectric capability of the insulator material. In other words, although coconut coir ash provides several benefits such as increasing mechanical strength, the proportion that is too high can harm the dielectric properties of the material.

The results of this study provide new insights into the selection of the right material composition to improve the performance of the insulator material in electric power applications. By utilizing natural resources such as coconut coir ash, we not only get a stronger and more effective insulator, but also support environmental sustainability through the use of environmentally friendly materials.
