However, the reality on the ground is very different. On the island of Sumatra, there was a case of burning plantation land by corporations that not only threaten the environment but also caused significant losses.

This article discusses the absolute accountability of corporations for environmental losses arising from plantation land fires on the island of Sumatra. The main focus of this discussion is the absolute concept of accountability for corporations related to violations of the law that produces environmental losses, as well as the importance of the implementation of the accountability system.

In the legal context, absolute accountability (strict liability) means that a party can be held accountable for the losses caused, even though there is no element of error or negligence that can be proven. In Indonesia, there are 13 legal provisions governing corporate responsibilities for environmental losses, but contained in laws that have not been fully implemented and socialized to all corporate layers.
