Utilization of Goat Manure and Rice Husk Ash to Reduce the Use of Urea and KCl Fertilizer and its Effect on the Growth of Rice Plants (Oryza sativa L.) and the Chemical Properties of Paddy Soils

Methodology

This study aims to evaluate the use of goat manure and rice husk ash as an alternative to reduce the use of urea and KCl fertilizer. In addition, this study also observed its effect on the growth of rice plants and the chemical properties of paddy soils. The study was conducted in greenhouses and chemistry/soil fertility laboratories, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, in the period February to May 2011. The design used was a random design of non-factorial groups with eight treatments and three replications, so there were twenty four Experiment Unit.

The treatment tested in this study consisted of:

P1 (Control: Urea fertilizer 3.6 g + SP-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + KCl fertilizer 2.7 g)
P2 (Goat Manure 12 G + SP-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + KCl 2.7 g fertilizer)
P3 (Goat Manure 24 G + SP-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + KCl 2.7 g fertilizer)
P4 (Goat Manure 36 g + SP-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + KCl 2.7 g fertilizer)
P5 (rice husk ash 12 g + sp-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + urea fertilizer 3.6 g)
P6 (Rice husk ash 24 G + SP-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + Urea fertilizer 3.6 g)
P7 (rice husk ash 36 g + sp-36 fertilizer 4.4 g + urea fertilizer 3.6 g)

Results

The results showed that the addition of goat manure and rice husk ash could increase soil pH, total soil nitrogen, plant height, number of shoots, plant dry weight, and significant dry weight of plants after four weeks. However, there is no significant effect on the content of soil organic carbon, phosphorus available, exchange of exchange, and soil C/N ratio.
