Introduction

The publication of research results on tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia has been a significant concern for health scientists and practitioners over the past two decades. With the increasing awareness of TB as a public health problem, the number of publications related to this disease has also increased. This study aims to explore the development and pattern of publication related to TB in Indonesia from 1997 to 2017 using the online pubmed database. By analyzing 161 articles published during this period, this study provides important insights on TB research in Indonesia.

Background

TB is a major public health problem in Indonesia, with a high prevalence of the disease in certain regions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that Indonesia has one of the highest TB burdens in the world. In response to this challenge, the Indonesian government has implemented various strategies to control TB, including increasing awareness, improving diagnosis and treatment, and enhancing research and scientific publications. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of TB research in Indonesia by analyzing the publication trends, collaboration patterns, and the contribution of institutions in this field.

Methodology

This study used a descriptive approach and bibliometric analysis method to analyze 161 articles published on TB in Indonesia from 1997 to 2017. The Bradford method was used to determine the core journal, while the Subramanyam method was used to measure the level of collaboration. The online pubmed database was used to retrieve the articles, and the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Publication Development

The results of this study showed a significant increase in publication related to TB disease in Indonesia, especially between 2005 and 2011. This may be influenced by an increase in awareness of TB diseases as a public health problem, as well as efforts from various health institutions to improve research and scientific publications. The most dominant type of publication is a journal article, which contributes around 88% of the total publication analyzed. This suggests that journal articles are the primary means of disseminating research findings on TB in Indonesia.

Research Institutions and Areas

Most research on TB in Indonesia was conducted by the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University and Hasan Sadikin Hospital located in Bandung. This shows that the institution has a significant role in the development of TB research. In addition, the West Java region is the most location for TB research, which may be caused by the high prevalence of this disease in the area. This suggests that the region has a high priority for TB research and control efforts.

Research Core and Collaboration Journal

From Bibliometrica analysis, the journal that published the most articles about TB is The International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, with a total of 33 articles (20.49%). Based on Bradford's law, this journal, along with plos One and The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health, was identified as a core journal for TB research in Indonesia. This suggests that these journals are the primary sources of information for researchers working on TB in Indonesia.

The collaboration rate between researchers is also very high, reaching 95.7%, which shows that TB research in Indonesia is carried out collaboratively. The high level of collaboration reflects the importance of cooperation between researchers from various institutions to improve the quality and quantity of research in this field.

Conclusion

Overall, this analysis provides a clear picture of publication trends, collaboration patterns, and the contribution of institutions in TB research in Indonesia. The increase in the number of publications in the last two decades shows that TB research has become an important focus for health scientists and practitioners. This finding can be used as a reference for researchers and policy makers to design a better research strategy and support efforts to control TB diseases in Indonesia. With the identified core journal, researchers are expected to more easily find relevant sources of information and contribute to the development of knowledge in this field.

Finally, the study did not analyze the quality of the articles, which may be an important factor in determining the impact of TB research in Indonesia.
