Relationship of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Community Behavior to Health Protocols in Prevention of Covid-19 in the Working Area of the Bagansiapiapi Puskesmas

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a global issue since its spread, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has been working tirelessly to combat it. In the midst of prevention efforts, the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the community in applying health protocols have become a crucial factor in reducing the number of transmissions of this virus. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of the community with their behavior in applying health protocols in the working area of the Bagansiapiapi Puskesmas.

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the world, causing widespread illness, death, and economic disruption. In Indonesia, the pandemic has also had a significant impact, with many cases reported in various regions. The Bagansiapiapi Puskesmas, a health center in the region, has been working to prevent the spread of the virus through various measures, including health education and promotion of health protocols. However, the effectiveness of these measures depends on the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the community.

Methodology

This study used a correlative descriptive method with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 99 respondents who were selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The questionnaire used consisted of demographic data and questions that measured the knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of the community related to the COVID-19 health protocol. The data was analyzed using descriptive analysis and the Pearson Product Moment method.

Results

The results of this study showed a significant relationship between public knowledge of COVID-19 and the behavior of the application of health protocols. The value of P = 0.000 and the correlation coefficient r = 0.378 indicate that the higher the knowledge of the community, the better the behavior in maintaining health and complying with health protocols. In addition, there is also a significant relationship between community attitudes and their behavior in applying the health protocol, with the value of P = 0.000 and R = 0.372. This confirms that a positive attitude towards the prevention of Covid-19 also contributes to people's behavior in complying with health protocols.

Analysis and Implications

From the results of this study, we can draw some important conclusions. First, increasing public knowledge about Covid-19 and the right health protocol is a crucial first step in the prevention of transmission. Socialization activities such as health education carried out by the Puskesmas can be one of the effective ways to improve the understanding of the community from various ages.

Second, the attitude of the community towards the health protocol also plays an important role. Positive attitudes formed through appropriate education and information can encourage community behavior to be more disciplined in carrying out health protocols. Thus, public policies that emphasize the health campaign and active involvement of the community are very important to build collective awareness.

Finally, the results of this study show that only relying on government regulations is not enough. The community must be given a comprehensive understanding of the importance of maintaining personal and environmental health. Collaboration between the government, health institutions, and the community must continue to be built so that collective awareness increases, so that the transmission of COVID-19 can be reduced significantly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior in the prevention of COVID-19. The results of this study show that increasing public knowledge and promoting positive attitudes towards health protocols can contribute to reducing the transmission of the virus. Therefore, it is hoped that the community can be more aware and active in the application of health protocols in daily life, for the sake of shared health and more effective Covid-19 prevention in the Bagansiapiapi region, as well as other regions.

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Health Education: The Puskesmas should continue to conduct health education activities to improve the understanding of the community from various ages.
Promoting Positive Attitudes: Public policies should emphasize the health campaign and active involvement of the community to build collective awareness.
Collaboration: Collaboration between the government, health institutions, and the community must continue to be built to increase collective awareness and reduce the transmission of COVID-19.
Community Involvement: The community must be given a comprehensive understanding of the importance of maintaining personal and environmental health.

By implementing these recommendations, it is hoped that the community can be more aware and active in the application of health protocols in daily life, for the sake of shared health and more effective Covid-19 prevention in the Bagansiapiapi region, as well as other regions.
