The Relationship Between Parent-Remarks Sexual Communication and Premarital Sexual Behavior in Students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra

Introduction

Sexual communication between parents and adolescents is a sensitive topic that plays a crucial role in adolescent education and sexual development. The way parents communicate with their children about sex can have a significant impact on their children's understanding of relationships, love, and responsibilities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between parental-remarks sexual communication and premarital sexual behavior among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra.

Methodology

This study involved 98 students spread across eight study programs at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra. A quantitative approach was used, and the sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, which aims to choose subjects that are relevant to this research. Data was obtained through two measurement scales: the scale of parent-remarks sexual communication and the scale of premarital sexual behavior. The analysis applied to explain the relationship between the two variables is linearity analysis, which allows researchers to test the predetermined hypothesis.

Results

The results of the study showed that there was a linear relationship between parental sexual communication and premarital sexual behavior, where the contribution of parental communication to premarital sexual behavior was 20.25%. This suggests that efforts to improve sexual communication in the family must be a priority, as it can reduce the risk of insecure premarital sexual behavior among students.
