Introduction

The world is facing an unprecedented energy crisis, driven by the increasing demand for energy due to population growth and limited oil resources. At 0% glycerol, the biogas volume produced was 18.53 ml, while at 5% glycerol, the biogas volume increased to 25.18 ml. The biogas volume continued to increase with the addition of glycerol, reaching a peak of 55.51 ml at 15% glycerol. In addition to biogas volume, the temperature and pH of each glycerol concentration were also measured. The results showed that the temperature increased with the addition of glycerol, reaching a maximum of 30.5ºC at 15% glycerol. The pH also increased with the addition of glycerol, reaching a maximum of 6.61 at 15% glycerol.

Discussion

The results of this study demonstrate the potential of glycerol as a carbon source in the production of biogas from cow dung. The addition of glycerol not only increased the volume of biogas produced but also affected its physical characteristics, such as temperature and pH.
