Analysis of Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) in Cinta Dame Village, Simanindo District, Samosir Regency

Introduction

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are one of the most widely cultivated and consumed vegetables in Indonesia. They are an essential ingredient in many traditional dishes and are also used as a flavor enhancer in various cuisines. However, the production and marketing of shallots in Indonesia are often plagued by inefficiencies, resulting in significant losses for farmers and traders. This study aims to analyze the pattern of the onion tract that occurred in Cinta Dame Village, Simanindo District, Samosir Regency, with the goal of understanding various onion tract tracts, margin distribution of each channel, the level of efficiency of the trading, and the elasticity of price transmission between farmers and end consumers.

Shallotian Channels

The results of this study showed that there were seven shallot traces, which reflect the distribution process of farmers to the end consumers. Each channel has different characteristics in terms of the number of intermediaries and delivery time. Channel I is proven to be the most efficient channel, where this efficiency is measured based on the costs and time required in the distribution process. The most efficient shallot tract, namely channel I, gives a picture that a more direct trade system between farmers and consumers can reduce the number of intermediaries, so that costs can be reduced. This is a valuable lesson for farmers and stakeholders in designing more effective marketing strategies.

Margin Distribution and Marketing Loss

Analysis of margin distribution of each channel shows that the cost of shrinking (marketing loss) dominates the process of shallots. Of the seven channels, Marketing Loss reached a total margin of 58.69%, with a total cost of shrinkage of Rp. 16,865. This figure shows a significant potential loss in the marketing process of shallots. Therefore, it is important to identify and reduce the cost of this shrinkage so that farmers and traders can get better profits. The high marketing loss in the shallot industry is a major concern, as it can lead to reduced income for farmers and traders, and ultimately affect the overall economy.

The Level of Efficiency and Price Elasticity
