Introduction

The base rot disease caused by the pathogen of ganoderma boninense (G. boninense) is one of the most significant threats to oil palm plants. This pathogen can cause death in oil palm seeds and also in plants that have been produced. Efforts to control the spread of G. Boninense have been carried out through various methods, such as the use of oil palm seeds that are resistant to this disease, culture techniques, biological agents, and the use of chemical fungicides. However, the results obtained from these methods are still not satisfactory.

The Need for Alternative Control Methods

The use of chemical fungicides has been the primary method of controlling G. Boninense, but it has several drawbacks. Methodology

The research method uses a complete random design with three replications consisting of five stages:

Results and Discussion

The results showed that the chemical properties of the soil have a low to moderate relationship with the percentage of G. Boninense attacks. The highest percentage of attack was found in the third generation oil palm plantation (92.29%), while in the first generation there was only 0.46%. Based on the vegetation survey, dominant weeds in infected areas are Rivina Humilis and Ageratum conyzoides, while in a healthy area dominated by diplazium esculentum and clidemia hirta.

The results of phytochemical screening show that the ethanol extract of the weeds contains bioactive compounds that can inhibit the growth of G. Boninense. The antagonistic test shows that compounds from D. esculentum and R. Humilis can inhibit the growth of these pathogens up to 100% at a certain concentration.

In terms of plant health, treatment with secondary metabolites shows effective pathogen control, with very low events and severity of diseases. Meanwhile, treatment with synthetic fungicides does not show significant differences in the observed parameters.

Conclusion

This study provides evidence that secondary metabolite compounds from weeds such as D. esculentum and R. Humilis can be an effective alternative to controlling the ganoderma pathogen in oil palm plantations. By maintaining the existence of this weed and controlling its growth selectively, we can utilize the natural biofungicide potential of this weed for continuous disease control. This research is expected to be an important source of information in the effort to control G. Boninense in the future.
