Effectiveness of Disinfectant to Decrease the Number of Germs on the Operating Room Floor at the Center for the General Hospital of Hajj Adam Malik Medan 2013
Introduction
The operating room is a critical area in any hospital where surgical procedures take place. However, it is also a high-risk area for the spread of infections due to the presence of germs on the floor. One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections is to reduce the number of germs on the floor, and this can be achieved by using disinfectants. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of several types of disinfectants in reducing the number of germs on the operating room floor and comparing the number of germs before and after the disinfection process.

Research Methodology
This study used a descriptive research design to evaluate the effectiveness of several types of disinfectants in reducing the number of germs on the operating room floor. The types of disinfectants used in this study were Germisep, Surfanios, Hydrex, and Rinso, which were then dissolved with water. The research was conducted on the operating room floor (OK 1-9) at the Central Surgery Installation (IBP) of Adam Malik Hajj Center General Hospital in Medan.
The sample was taken through the swab (swab) method at three points in each room: the middle of the room under the operating table, the area in front of the ventilation wall, and in front of the operating room door. After taking the sampling, the analysis was carried out in the laboratory using the bacterial breeding method to determine the number of germs.
Research Results
The results of this study showed that the average number of germs on the floor before the disinfection process was 9 cfu/cm², whereas after disinfection, the number dropped to 3 cfu/cm². This shows a percentage decrease of 66.7%. These results have met the standards set by the Republic of Indonesia Decree No. 1204 of 2004 concerning Hospital Environmental Health Requirements, which sets the maximum limit of germs on the operating room floor at 0-5 CFU/cm².
Conclusion and Recommendations
From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the disinfectants used have proven effective in reducing the number of germs on the operating room floor. Therefore, it is advisable to the hospital to increase supervision of cleaning activities and provide adequate equipment for janitors. Optimal hygiene in the operating room environment is very important to prevent nosocomial infections, maintain the health of patients, and improve the quality of hospital services.
