The Effect of Audit Findings of the Financial Audit Agency, Government's Wealth, Size of Government and Leverage on the Performance of the Regency/City Regional Government in Indonesia

Introduction

The performance of local governments in Indonesia is a crucial aspect of the country's development. The Regency/City Regional Government plays a vital role in providing public services and implementing regional development programs. However, the performance of these governments is often affected by various factors, including audit findings, government wealth, government size, and leverage. This study aims to determine the effect of these factors on the performance of the Regency/City Regional Government in Indonesia.

Background

The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) is responsible for conducting audits of local governments in Indonesia. The audit findings of the BPK can have a significant impact on the performance of local governments. Government wealth, which includes assets and liabilities, can also affect the performance of local governments. Government size, which refers to the budget and resources of local governments, can also impact their performance. Leverage, which refers to the use of debt to finance government activities, can also have a significant effect on the performance of local governments.

Methodology

This study used a descriptive analysis method, classical assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and the coefficient of determination to examine the relationship between the variables and the performance of local governments. The population studied included all regency/city regional governments in Indonesia. A sample of 47 local governments was taken using the purposive sampling method. The data used was secondary data, which was then processed using SPSS software.

Results

The results of this study showed that the BPK and Leverage audit findings partially had no significant influence on local government performance. Conversely, government wealth had a negative influence on performance, while government size showed a positive effect. Overall, BPK audit findings, government assets, government size, and leverage had a significant influence on local government financial performance.

Deeper Analysis

The results of this study provide important insights for policy makers and stakeholders at the regional level. First, although the BPK and Leverage audit findings do not show an individual significant effect, this shows the need for deeper evaluation related to the mechanism of regional financial management. On the other hand, government wealth that has a negative impact shows that increasing assets is not always directly proportional to performance improvement. Other factors such as inefficient asset management or lack of understanding in utilizing these assets can affect this result.

The size of the government that has a positive effect indicates that a larger local government in terms of budget and resources tends to have a better capacity to improve performance. This reflects the importance of effective management and appropriate allocation of resources to achieve regional development goals.

The shared influence of the four variables shows that further analysis is needed to understand the interactions between them. A deeper understanding will help local governments in formulating more effective strategies, not only to improve financial performance, but also to improve public services.

Conclusion

This study not only provides a strong basis for evaluating local government performance, but also opens the way for further research in the field of public accountability and regional financial management. Given the challenges faced by local governments in Indonesia, the results of this study become very relevant and useful for better decision making in the future.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Deeper evaluation of regional financial management: The results of this study show that the BPK and Leverage audit findings do not have an individual significant effect on local government performance. Therefore, a deeper evaluation of the mechanism of regional financial management is needed to understand the interactions between the variables.
Improving asset management: The negative impact of government wealth on performance shows that increasing assets is not always directly proportional to performance improvement. Therefore, improving asset management and understanding in utilizing these assets is crucial.
Effective management and resource allocation: The positive effect of government size on performance shows that a larger local government in terms of budget and resources tends to have a better capacity to improve performance. Therefore, effective management and appropriate allocation of resources are crucial to achieve regional development goals.
Further research: The shared influence of the four variables shows that further analysis is needed to understand the interactions between them. Therefore, further research is needed to provide a deeper understanding of the relationships between the variables and the performance of local governments.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. First, the sample size was limited to 47 local governments. Second, the data used was secondary data, which may not be accurate or up-to-date. Third, the study only examined the effect of audit findings, government wealth, government size, and leverage on local government performance, and did not consider other factors that may affect performance.
