Introduction

Rural industrialization has been recognized as a key strategy for promoting economic growth and reducing poverty in rural areas. In Simalungun Regency, specifically in Bandar District, rural industrialization has been implemented as a means to increase community income. This study aims to explore the influence of rural industrialization on increasing community income in Bandar District, Simalungun Regency. The main focus of this study is to gain a clear understanding of the pattern of the industrial sector trend in boosting community income, as well as to analyze the absorption of labor before and after the implementation of industrialization. In addition, this research also identifies the factors that encourage and hamper the industrialization process in the region.

Background of the Study

Simalungun Regency is one of the districts in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The regency has a total population of approximately 1.2 million people, with the majority living in rural areas. The economy of Simalungun Regency is primarily based on agriculture, with a significant portion of the population engaged in farming and livestock production. Results

The results of this study show that there was a significant influence of industrialization on increasing community income in Bandar District. This is evident from the increase in the contribution of the industrial sector to the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) which continues to increase every year. Regression analysis shows that the multiplier coefficient for small or household industry subsectors is the largest, reaching a value of 0.44 when compared to other sectors. T test at the 99% confidence level revealed that the variables of small industry subsectors had a very significant effect on the total income of the community.

Furthermore, the analysis shows that the income of home industry craftsmen is strongly influenced by the technology used. The simpler the technology applied, the smaller the income earned. In addition to technological factors, craftsmen experiences, weather, price fluctuations, and difficulties in marketing are also other determinants.

Through an analysis of location quotient (LQ), based on labor and income indicators, LQ value is greater than 1. This shows that the small or household industry subsector is a base sector that provides opportunities for expanding employment opportunities and increasing regional income. The growth of this sub-sector also has an impact on the upstream and downstream industry, which further strengthens the role of small industries in the local economy.

The study identifies two categories of factors that influence industrialization in Bandar District: socio-cultural and human resource factors. Socio-cultural factors that encourage include competitive attitudes and openness towards innovation. Conversely, passive attitudes, past orientation, and reception of destiny can hamper progress. In the context of human resources, the relatively large number of workers becomes a driving force, while the low quality of the workforce becomes an obstacle. The quality of human resources is also closely related to the technology used in the industry.

Investment Analysis

Investment analysis shows the value of the Capital Output Ratio coefficient of 0.27. This indicates that the small industrial or household subsector is very efficient, so it does not require large capital for development. Therefore, this industry is feasible to be developed in order to increase the income of the people of Bandar District.

Conclusion

The results of this study provide a clear picture that rural industrialization, especially through the development of small industry subsectors, has great potential in increasing community income. By utilizing the factors of driving and overcoming existing obstacles, it is hoped that the economy of the community in Bandar District can continue to develop and improve its welfare.
