Comparison of the Level of Knowledge of General Practitioners in Tanah Karo Regency and Labuhanbatu Regency about Making the Visum Et Repertum Victims of Living Cases before and after Training in 2023
Introduction
In the field of forensic medicine, the Visum et Repertum (VER) plays a crucial role in providing legal evidence in criminal cases. As stipulated in Article 184 of the Criminal Procedure Code, VER is a legal document that explains the results of medical examinations in criminal cases. The preparation of VER must be carried out clearly and accurately to serve as evidence in the process of proof of criminal acts and assist the court in law enforcement. Therefore, doctors are required to make a good VER for legal and judicial interests.
The Importance of Visum et Repertum in Forensic Medicine
Visum et Repertum is a legal document that provides a detailed description of the physical condition and injuries of a victim. It is an essential tool in forensic medicine, as it helps to establish the cause of death, determine the time of death, and identify any potential suspects. The Study
This study aimed to compare the level of knowledge of general practitioners in Tanah Karo Regency and Labuhanbatu Regency about making VER for victims of living cases before and after training in 2023. A comparative analytic study was conducted with a latitude cutting design, which compared the level of doctor's knowledge before and after the training of verifying victims of life cases. The research sample consisted of 15 general practitioners in Tanah Karo Regency and 15 general practitioners in Labuhanbatu Regency who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were taken using non-probability sampling techniques by consecutive sampling.
Methodology
The subjects were asked to make VER based on real cases that had been prepared previously through photos. After that, the researcher will analyze and assess each variable and give scores to the VER. The results were then compared to determine the level of knowledge of general practitioners before and after training.
Results
The results showed a significant difference in the level of general practitioner's knowledge regarding the manufacture of VER for victims of living cases before and after training. In Tanah Karo Regency, the p-value obtained is 0.003, while in Labuhanbatu Regency shows a more significant p-value, namely <0.001. Before the training, no significant differences were found in the level of knowledge of general practitioners in both districts with P-value 0.272. However, after training, there are significant differences in the level of knowledge of general practitioners with P-Value 0.001 in the two regions under study.
Discussion
The results of this study indicate that training in making VER is very necessary. Improving the quality of making VER for victims of living cases is clearly visible after the training is carried out. With an effective training, it is hoped that general practitioners can provide more appropriate and beneficial medical evidence for the interests of the law, so that the judicial process can run better and more accurately.

With the increasing knowledge of general practitioners about making VER, it is expected that the quality and accuracy in the preparation of this legal document will increase. This will also have a positive impact on justice and law enforcement in the community, especially in dealing with cases involving victims of living. This study provides an important picture of the need for training for medical personnel in improving their competencies in the field of medical law, which will certainly bring benefits to the judicial system in Indonesia.
Recommendations
Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that training programs for general practitioners be implemented regularly to improve their knowledge and skills in making VER. Additionally, the government and relevant institutions should provide support and resources for medical personnel to ensure that they have the necessary tools and expertise to prepare accurate and reliable VER.
Limitations
This study has several limitations, including the small sample size and the limited scope of the study. Future studies should aim to include a larger sample size and explore the topic in more depth.
