Introduction

Methodology

This study was conducted in seven green lanes in four sub-districts in the city of Medan, with the aim of identifying the types of trees, assessing their health, and mapping their distribution. The Forest Health Assessment Method (FHM) was adopted to determine the value of the damage index (NIK) with healthy, mild, medium, and severe criteria. The use of the Geographic Information System (GIS) application allowed for monitoring and maintaining tree health in the green lanes of the city of Medan southern. The process of making a map of tree health distribution was carried out using Arcgis 10.1 software.

Main Findings

The analysis shows that the most common tree species found in the green lanes of Medan is the Angsana tree (Pterocarpus indicus). The healthy criteria dominate the damage criteria, indicating that most trees are in good condition. However, damage is generally caused by human activity and pathogenic attacks such as fungi, which cause vandalism and cancer in trees. The distribution of trees is most found on Jalan Ngumban Surbakti, with a total of 1,057 trees.
