Introduction

In the midst of the swift flow of globalization, the Simalungun people have experienced a serious threat to their culinary lexicons. The Simalungun community's culinary lexicon, which is rich in cultural meaning, is now endangered. The enthusiasm and attention of the community to traditional culinary have reduced, resulting in a loss of understanding of culinary terms. This study aims to describe the verb lexicon and the culinary noun of the Simalungun community, as well as the level of community understanding of their own culinary. In addition, this research identifies the factors that cause Simalungun culinary threats.

Research Purposes

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the current state of the Simalungun community's culinary lexicon, particularly in Dame Raya Village, Raya District. The research aims to:

Describe the verb lexicon and the culinary noun of the Simalungun community
Identify the level of community understanding of their own culinary
Determine the factors that cause Simalungun culinary threats

Methodology

To gather accurate data, researchers employed a combination of interview techniques, observation, and distribution of questionnaires. The data collected focused on the type of culinary lexicon in the Simalungun community. The results of the analysis showed that there were 13 types of culinary identified and classified into two lexicon groups: (1) activities and (2) tools and materials. From the two groups, 59 lexicons were found and 190 lexicon tools and materials, which made the total Simalungun culinary lexicon reach 249.

Analysis of Besting

The results of the analysis reveal that the young generation, especially those aged between 15 to 20 years, is the most threatened group in terms of loss of understanding of Simalungun culinary lexicons. Various factors contributing to this threat include:

The rise of modern restaurants and the increasing popularity of international cuisine have led to a decline in the popularity of traditional Simalungun culinary.
